Day 9 - 'First Aid' task, Life changing experiences
<<
On day 9, Dean visited Big Brother shortly after getting-up to
discuss his nominations; the group wouldn't find-out the result
for two days. He stated that group seemed to have taken the nominations
to heart and this was causing mistrust. He justified his nomination
for Penny, suggesting that although he actually wouldn't mind living
with her for a number of weeks, it was for 'the good of the group'
that he nominated her.
An hour or so later, Narinder also visited the diary room to talk
about the nominations. All the speculation the previous day was,
in her opinion, too much. She cited Bubble as 'doin her head in'
and said that Amma had been sucking-up to everyone. "It's false,"
she said, adding that she was happy with the nomination process
and could have easily nominated 6 people!
Just before midday Stuart led some of the girls in an aerobic workout
while Brian struggled with Dean's (reasonably small) dumbbells.
After being shown how to 'curl', Dean suggested that the limp-wristed
Irishman went for 20 curls on each arm. "What, over many days?"
came Brian's response!
A
little later Big Brother set the second weekly task: the group had
to familiarise themselves with bandaging, shock, burns and fractures,
a First Aid task. Brian was in his element, as his job of flight
cabin attendant meant he was already something of an expert. Despite
Helen's lack of enthusiasm (basically it didn't involve sunbathing,
so she wasn't interested,) the group nevertheless decided to bet
60% of their budget on completing the task.
They swotted-up on first aid throughout the afternoon, with Brian
and Narinder taking time out for a 'verbal insult tennis match.'
With Stuart keeping score, the pretend ding-dong included insults
to each other's hair, clothes and cosmetic products. It was hilarious!
After a pasta dinner, the group sat around the sofa area discussing
the topic of 'life-changing experiences,' something Big Brother
had asked them to do. Paul talked about having his ears pinned back
as a kid. Penny talked about her experience of having anorexia as
a child, never feeling happy with her body and so getting a boob
job when she reached 30. Narinder recounted her experience of being
snubbed whilst courting as an 'Asian' girl, however it was Bubble's
experience that really stood out.
Bubble preceded to tell how he hadn't really been a great father
to his little girl and how he'd been a selfish, angry young man.
However, upon recounting his experience his lip started to quiver
and he had to stop. When he resumed, he detailed how his daughter
had one day said that she wanted to play with him rather than watch
a video. It'd hit home to him just how important his child was and
fatherhood in general, which changed his life forever. He finished
the story with glassy eyes; it was a powerful and emotional story
that showed a totally different side to the 'laddish' cockney.
After the rather moving conversations earlier that night, the boys
lightened things up at bedtime by placing the first aid CPR dummy
in Brian's bed and switching out the lights. Brian sussed it immediately
however, saying sternly, "Who's in my bed?" and letting
out a shriek upon establishing what it was!
