BOYS'
TOYS
Urged by the DIY bug, Jack went on the hunt for wood in the
garden in order to make a bow and arrow. As he arrived back
in the living room, goods in hand, Anthea joked: Hes
back with some ammunition, and then pointed to Jacks
toolbox where, she said: He keeps things there to make
little things out of. Getting laces out of the affectionately
known rocket box, Jack announced to the group
that the making of a catapult would be the evenings
entertainment. After saying the wood was perfect,
Keith added: We could cut it in half and make two.
So Jack got busy cutting it with a kitchen knife - an eager
Keith looking over his shoulder. With that task completed,
his mind then turned to the making of a crossbow. Turning
to Keith he said: If we had a smaller bow as well, we
could make a crossbow and that would be even better.
With boyish expressions of concentration, they got down to
tying the laces to the end of the bow, but it wasnt
as easy a task as they had initially thought. We need
a bit of thin plywood, suggested Keith, to Jacks
murmur of approval. But, regardless, they continued, while
Anthea and Claire joked in the kitchen about their intentions
for making the ammunition.
