Day 2 - In Detail. Chris gets evicted, Jack breaks-out,
2nd Nominations
On the second day in the house, the day that either Chris or Anthea
would be evicted, everyone was up by around 9.15am. The girls were
in their bedroom making girly talk and Vanessa suggested that it
might require a small team of people to help with her hair if she
decided to wash it. Later that morning, the contestants were preparing
a soup for lunch using fresh vegetables from the garden. Chris showed
the ladies his rhythm by demonstrating some Jamaican dancing. They
all joined-in whilst Jack
accompanied on guitar.
At midday, everyone gathered 'round to make the group's shopping
list. Each contestant had a shopping budget of just £1.50
per day. It was decided that they would budget for wine first, and
then see how much they had left to buy food! Keith, who evidently
enjoys a drink, suggested that they bought cider instead of wine
as it would go further. Teetotal Chris was trying to convince the
group to abstain from drinking and remain on his level. However,
they were having none of it and Claire told him he was going against
the majority (basically everyone else) with his proposal. She also
ribbed him, inferring that he was already on another plain without
the need for alcohol!
A couple of hours later lunch was served and Chris instigated a
conversation about parenting techniques. It was mainly between him
and Vanessa, who had completely opposing opinions. In the end and
after ten minutes of heated discussion, Vanessa snapped at Chris
and told him sternly not to patronise her or tell her what to do.
Mid-afternoon and the group began work on their first task. This
was to customise a pair of pants for each other in-order to perform
a fashion show later that day. Some housemates were called to the
diary room one by one, to show Big Brother what they had done. Some
time later, Anthea was still working on her pants and while the
culinary-skilled Jack made bread, the others sat talking about missing
their families. Chris had a bit of a laugh at Vanessa, calling her
a drama queen in response to the fact that she mentioned a dream
she'd had the night before. This prompted a retort from not only
Vanessa, but also from Claire who proceeded to light-heartedly mock
Chris' mannerisms and his walking stick. He did ask for it though,
with his question to Vanessa, "When am I dramatic?" Chris
went-on to suggest that being overly dramatic was perhaps a trait
amongst Jewish girls. However, Vanessa firmly disagreed.
Keith then got-up and joined Jack in the kitchen area, quietly
proclaiming "It's doing my f*****g head in!" The whole
conversation seemed to amuse Jack, who gave a psychological opinion
on the friction in the house based on a book he had once read; only
Claire and Keith heard this. He also quipped that he would, "Pay
good money to watch Vanessa and Chris locked in this place...for
two months!"
Just after 6 o'clock Big Brother asked the contestants to begin
their fashion show. Vanessa had made pants for Anthea, Claire for
Chris, Chris for Claire, Keith made some for Jack, Anthea for Keith
and Jack for Vanessa. When explaining about the pants he'd made
for Vanessa, Jack talked of the eggs in the attached lunchbox representing
the good causes they were trying raise money for. However, when
he had earlier shown Big Brother his creation, he had given a different
account. You got the distinct feeling that Vanessa had drilled into
Jack exactly what to say, particularly when his later comments at
nomination time were taken into account. The highlight of the fashion
show was probably Keith's Irish jig in his 'kidney warmer' kaks.
As a reward for completing their task Big Brother played the Comic
Relief song, Uptown Girl by Westlife, into the house. Whilst all
the other 'models' danced-around near the kitchen area in their
custom pants, Jack made his way to the diary room. He sat down in
the chair and in his best comedic deadpan delivery said, "...I
just need to know if I still have a career; if you could come back
to me on that?" The reply from Big Brother came, "Big
Brother will get back to you." A classic!
A few hours later, the contestants were sat around the sofas awaiting
news on the results of the first public 'eviction' vote. Would it
be Chris or would it be Anthea leaving after just one night? It
was Chris. He stood-up in silence and received a big hug from the
visibly relieved Anthea. A handshake and a kiss followed from Vanessa,
who told Chris that he'd been fun and would be missed, even though
they'd had a few barnies. A handshake and some words from Jack,
a little hug and kiss from Claire and quick handshake from Keith.
Chris went straight to the boys' bedroom to pack his things. Whilst
he did so, Jack was heard to say (re-iterating, we believe, something
Keith had just said,) "He's the most entertaining man I've
ever met." Chris called Vanessa into the bedroom where she
mitigated all their arguing by saying that she just considered it
a bit of enjoyable 'verbal sparring.' Chris stated that he thought
all the other housemates had found their bickering a bit disconcerting.
In response, Vanessa predicted that perhaps she would be seen as
a troublemaker and would be the next contestant to go. Regarding
their discussions earlier that day, they both agreed that they'd
just been 'sticking to their points' and rather diplomatically Chris
said, "That's what discussions are about." It was good
of Vanessa to clear the air and made for an amicable parting between
the pair.
35 minutes later, Chris was ordered-out of the house by Big Brother.
He was met by his wife and others at the end of the walkway. When
he was asked how he felt, he said he felt brilliant and that he'd
had a fantastic, fun, time in the house. Prompted to give a message
for the public, Chris said, "Thank you for giving me the opportunity
to entertain you for one night. It's been an absolute pleasure."
Chris looked really happy. The second round of nominations followed.
However, the results would not be announced to the group until Day
3.
At 3am, Vanessa had been in bed for 40 minutes whilst Anthea, Claire
and Keith enjoyed a soak in the hot tub. Jack came out of the house
and began digging-around under the fence with a rake. The others
joked that he was trying to break-out but Jack stated that there
was concrete underneath the fence. Then, out of sheer cheek Jack
simply tried the handle on the gate and when it opened, he was off!
Security was alerted and immediately began searching the grounds.
However it wasn't until 40 minutes later that they found Jack crouching
behind a security hut within the compound; they promptly returned
him to the house. Whether Jack was genuinely desperate to get out
or whether it was a stunt was unclear. Either way it was hilarious,
especially when Jack walked back into the house with his face all
camouflaged-up with mud 'commando' style. He made a straight-faced
joke about how far he'd got in his escape attempt and said that
he decided to turn back because he remembered it was for Comic Relief.
"I just wanted to get out," he said. Keith laughingly
replied, "I thought you were going to get us a McDonalds!"
