Day 1 - In Detail. Contestants enter the house, 1st
nominations
They arrived in black limos, emerging with just one small, red,
suitcase of belongings. Jack turned up in his trademark suit. Vanessa
looked rather elegant in a light-coloured outfit complete with dapper
hat. Claire and Keith dressed casually. Anthea looked casual but
smart. And Chris sported his customary and rather unique, 'jodhpur/monocle'
look, without actually wearing the monocle on this occasion. The
biggest cheers from the crowd outside went to Jack and Vanessa.
In the studio, everyone else apart from Jack had their families
in support. This was no doubt some kind of psychological ploy on
his part, although what it means at this stage is anybody's guess.
Outside, Vanessa remarked that entering the house was unnerving,
but actually looked very relaxed, as did Keith. Claire looked in
high spirits but Anthea looked very apprehensive indeed. Chris was
his usual 'cocky' self and Jack looked, you guessed it, as miserable
as ever. Chris was the last one to enter the house due to his slow
'swagger' down the walkway into the house.
Upon entering the house, the girls immediately remarked how colourful
it was. Jack made a dry quip about it being "good to get away
from the cameras" and this raised a laugh. Chris started babbling
straight away and you could tell that Jack wasn't going to humour
him for long. Vanessa got Jack to crack open the champagne. Straight
onto the drink in true Big Brother contestant style!
In the boys' bedroom, Chris started talking about sleeping arrangements
and Jack quickly and wryly replied, "I'd like to be on my own,"
making Keith laugh with his innuendo. They decided to move the beds
around in order to make the room more symmetrical, but were swiftly
reprimanded by Big Brother. This situation brought the girls running
to see what was going on and Chris' general behaviour raised a rarely
seen smile on the face of Jack.
Jack and Claire got acquainted with the chickens while Chris er...
talked to himself in the bedroom. For AGES. When Keith came into
the bedroom to ask Chris if he'd settled in yet, Chris had already
changed his outfit and was sporting a kind of kaftan/dress type
garment. This was much to the bemusement of Keith. Over in the girls'
room, Anthea was dishing out homemaking tips to Vanessa, who shortly
after, visited Big Brother and requested a 'blue' movie for the
bored Keith; it rather predictably wasn't to be.
Lunch soon followed and consisted of soup and biscuits. Yet more
of their allowance of alcohol was opened and consumed. A discussion
about sexuality ensued, instigated initially by a question to Claire
but picked-up on by Keith. Chris became involved, as there had apparently
been an incident between him and Keith prior to entering the house.
It was intriguingly suggested by Chris that Keith might be gay,
but the conversation moved-on before it had been established exactly
what it was all about. Although he remained silent, Jack's face
was a picture almost every time Chris spoke; he nearly cracked-up
when Chris began talking about fame and explained why he 'struts'
around wherever he goes.
At around 3.30pm, Chris went to lie on his bed whilst the other
housemates played cards. This gave Keith the perfect opportunity
to explain what the incident previously discussed at the dining
table was all about. It was basically, that Keith had got drunk
at a function and become 'overly friendly' with Chris, playfully
grabbing the ex-boxer's crotch. This had been misread by Chris who
evidently hadn't seen the funny side, had got the totally wrong
idea and taken offence.
Later, after a 2-hour nap, Chris returned to the group and began
to show Vanessa, now donning a pair of boxing gloves, some of his
boxing skills. Jack remarked out of earshot of Chris, that the former
World Champion only started talking sensibly when he was talking
about boxing. There was a certain amount of respect for Chris in
this remark to Claire.
About an hour later, the housemates tucked-into the Mexican food
brought in to the house by Keith, one of his luxury items. By then,
after seven hours in the house, they had all begun to settle-in.
However it wouldn't be long before they had to nominate whom they
wanted to vote out of the house, live to the nation. When
all the nominations were complete, Davina announced to the group
which two faced possible eviction at the hands of the public. The
two unlucky housemates concerned, Anthea and Chris, both looked
visibly moved when told it was them, particularly Anthea. But hey,
that's the nature of the show and it is only a gameshow in aid of
charity after all.
Chris visited the diary room to speak to Big Brother shortly after
being told that he faced the 'boot. Anthea was called-in for a chat
at around 10.15pm. She was obviously a little upset and was trying
desperately not to take it personally, something she said would
be difficult. Jack sat playing his guitar while they all sat around
the sofa area. The housemates then got changed into their bedclothes
and Jack performed an amusing 'fart and look back' manoeuvre as
he walked out of the bedroom!
Within an hour, Chris was off to bed leaving the others sat chatting
on the sofas, consuming the last bottle of wine. Some risqué
subjects were discussed, instigated by Keith who'd clearly had a
fair bit to drink. Vanessa was happy to take part and Anthea showed
she wasn't a prude by eventually giving her opinion on masturbation.
However, Claire and Jack were more reluctant, clearly embarrassed
about the subjects and tried to move the conversation on. Somewhat
surprisingly, everyone apart from Chris was still awake and chatting
until well past 3am. Before they went to bed, they concluded that
the show was more difficult for celebrities to participate-in and
that, when it came to nominations it most definitely wasn't 'only
a game.'
