Celebrity Big Brother 2 Introduction
Hi and welcome to our coverage of Celebrity Big Brother 2.
This is second outing for this special 'charity' version
of Big Brother, following the highly successful original (Celebrity
Big Brother) in March 2001 - please visit our Archive
section for our coverage of that show.
The six mad participants in that show, which raised around
£500,000 for Comic Relief, were Anthea Turner, Chris
Eubank, Claire Sweeney, Jack Dee, Keith Duffy and Vanessa
Feltz.
At the time, it was fair to say that a couple of the contestants
in the line-up were pretty much unknown to the majority of
viewers. However, even though the series ran for just 8 days,
we really got to know quite a lot about them in that time
and certain contestants' careers were either kick-started
or rekindled as a result.
This time around, the show will be bigger and better than
before: For a start, it will last for a full 10 days and unlike
last time, the goings-on in the house will be broadcast 'round-the-clock
on Digital TV channel e4 and also on the Internet.
For that reason, we've just had to scramble the NTL guys
to come to our new offices and install their Digital TV and
1Mb Broadband Internet services pretty sharpish! (Cheers to
the guys at NTL who pulled out all the stops; we owe you a
drink).
So, forget work, forget taking the kids to school, forget
eating properly or socialising... if you want to catch all
the action, make sure you tune into e4 for around 20 hours
a day and/or get yourself signed-up for the webcams! We'll
be bringing you more details on how to view the cams later-on,
although be advised that a Broadband connection is recommended.
We'll also be bringing you more information on how to vote
and you'll be pleased to hear that 15p from every 25p 'public
vote' telephone call, will go to a number of charities, namely:
Centrepoint, National Missing Persons Helpline, Rethink and
the Samaritans.
The six contestants will live in the house as per Big Brother
'proper' - the only changes, apart from slightly different
furniture, being that the cameras in the loo have been removed
to protect the celebs' privacy. They will be locked-in, with
no entertainment provided, will have a limited shopping budget
and will be monitored 24/7.
As the show is an accelerated format and lasts only 10 days
(20th-29th November,) the contestants will nominate for the
first time on Day 3. You, the public, have the final eviction
vote and the first contestant will leave the house on Day
5, broadcast live on TV.
Having read all the above waffle, surely what you really
want to know by now is, "Who's going in the house?!"
Well, we can't say just yet, but if you visit our Discussion
Forums later today, we might be hinting-at who the six
contestants are. Aren't we a tease?!
Don't fret though, as we'll of course be detailing exactly
who the contestants are later tonight. Lastly, don't forget
that you'll find our fun Polls and a TV Schedule on our Home
page as usual during the show.
Celebrity Big Brother 2 starts today, Wednesday 20th November,
at 9pm on Channel 4. For e4 viewers, the first 'Big Brother's
Little Brother' show goes live at 8.30pm.
See you back here soon.
