The Chilli Challenge
To decide the next Head of House, Big Brother made the entire
group take part in a chilli-eating challenge in the Diary
Room this afternoon.
Dale was first up, and was presented with eight chillies
going from mild at the bottom of the scale to really hot at
number 8. The trainee teacher donned plastic gloves to handle
the odd-shaped vegetables, and had to chew each one at least
five times; there would be no swallowing down in one go to
lessen the burning sensation.
After chomping on number 4 first, Dale then opted for number
1 but couldn't quite hack it. Consequently, the former HoH
had problems breathing and sicked-up before rushing out-of
the Diary Room to splash himself with water, consume a glass
of milk and brush his teeth vigorously.
A baffled Luke asked, "Have you been stung on your tongue?"
but Dale wasn't allowed to tell his peers what was going on.
However, the group quickly sussed that it was something to
do with spicy food, and dubbed next-to-go Kat the yardstick
by which the challenge should be measured.
Indeed, the 30-year-old Thai housemate relished the challenge,
polishing-off numbers 3, 4, 6 and 7 before running out-of
time. Mikey also did fantastically well, eating numbers 4,
5, 6, 7 and 8 before giving-up, having scored a whopping 30
points.
But while Mikey exited the Diary Room calmly, next-to-go
Mohamed came out in a total-and-utter frenzy and jumped straight
into a cold shower. Quick, call the fire brigade, Mo's mouth's
on fire! However, Luke, Dale and Stuart – the former
having failed to eat a single chilli and the latter not having
taken his turn – suggested that their greedy peer was
just exaggerating for effect.
It was Stuart who put-in the best effort, making mincemeat
of numbers 1, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 before saying of the highest-numbered
chilli, "Are you sure that's meant to be the hottest?"
However, somewhat ironically the 25-year-old then began to
struggle, but continued-on to consume number 5 despite saying,
"I don't want to be Head of House, but I want to win
this". Stu ate a total of seven out of a possible eight
chillies, but was unable to finish number 2.
The maximum score was 36, and here's how well they all did,
from worst to best:
Luke: zero
Rachel: zero
Dale: 5
Maysoon: 9
Lisa: 9
Darnell: 10
Kathreya: 20
Sara: 24
Rex: 26
Mohamed: 28
Mikey: 30
Stuart: 34
The result of the Chilli Challenge determined this week's
Head of House and also the Heavenly Housemates, with Sara
just missing-out on a place in paradise.
