Big Brother 9 Betting, Summer 2008. Clear profit so far this series: £970

We've now placed some final week 'Overall Winner' bets and will reveal all in time. It's a bit risky given that the Winner is so uncertain though, so we don't want to tell you now, just in case people follow our lead, lose and then blame us!

Monday, 1st September 2008  (Day 89)
The public had been voting for a winner since Friday night, and fans knew that there would be a surprise Double Eviction on the Tuesday. So, seeing as two-out-of seven people were going, it wasn't entirely clearcut, but nevertheless we staked a relatively small amount, £150, on Mo and Kat becoming the 12th and 13th Evictees at odds of 8/13. Polls had given us a good idea what might happen, and our bet came right when that pair were evicted the following day.  Result: £92 profit.

See our other Big Brother 9 bets and our betting from the past five years below.

It's just for fun really, but why not join us and have a little flutter yourself this time around? More betting below advert

Tuesday, 19th August 2008  (Day 76)
When the nominees were announced and it was obvious that Nicole could never survive against Lisa and Sara. So, as it was such a certainty, we staked £1000 on the blonde to go, and were rather surprised that bookies were offering the relatively decent odds of 1/8 (you stake £8 to make £1 profit). Nicole's odds subsequently went down to 1/100 on the Friday morning, and then to 1/500 just before the eviction i.e. if you staked £1000 you would win just £2 profit! We expected Nicole to get around 80% in the public vote, but she was evicted with a massive 94% at the 10th Eviction, which consequently made us £125.  Result: £125 profit.

Wednesday, 13th August 2008  (Day 70)
The nominees had been announced the day before (Rachel vs Stuart) and it quickly became obvious that Rachel would survive. So, we put £600 on Stuart to go at the odds of 1/8, and won a profit of £75 (plus our stake back) when he was evicted with 59% on the Friday. Our Poll said 63%.  Result: £75 profit.

Wednesday, 6th August 2008  (Day 63)
The 8th Eviction market didn't go live when the nominees were announced, but by the time it did the following day, we had a good idea that Stu would survive. As the odds were incredibly low (1/14) we had to stake a lot of money to make it worthwhile, and put a bag of sand on Dale to become the 8th Evictee of Big Brother 9. The bet paid off when he was evicted two days later, with 63% of the vote.  Result: £71 profit.

Thursday, 31st July 2008  (Day 57)
Things were different this week as the voting lines were open on the Wednesday and Thursday only, rather than the usual Tuesday to Friday period. The 7th Eviction betting market was available for a brief period on the Thursday, so we staked £300 on Luke to go at the odds of 1/4 (£1 profit for every £4 staked). Once again, our main Poll was really accurate, because Luke left the following day having received 37% in the public vote (against eight other people); our Poll said 38%.  Result: £75 profit.

Tuesday, 22nd July 2008  (Day 48)
The nominees for the 6th Eviction had been announced earlier in the day, so in the evening we placed a £500 bet on Rebecca to go next at odds of 1/4. We hadn't bet on the 'Belinda' eviction the previous week, but were fairly sure from early Poll results that Bex would go this week. And we were right because she got evicted with 65% of the vote, even though she was up-against two other nominees. Our Poll was accurate to within 3% right from the start.  Result: £125 profit.

Friday, 18th July 2008  (Day 44)
Before the 5th Eviction had even taken place (Belinda went later that day), odds for the next eviction were available for a change. So, we placed a speculative bet, trying to guess who might be up and get sent home the following week. It was a total guess so we only staked £20 on Rebecca at 15/8 to become the next evictee. We fully expected to lose as such bets are a huge gamble, but we won nearly £40 plus our stake back when Bex was subsequently up-against Darnell and Mo, and got evicted the following Friday night.  Result: £38 profit.

Friday, 11th July 2008  (Day 37)
We'd just written the below article about Dale's chances of winning, so it would have been mad not to back him at the current odds. Therefore, we put £40 on Dale to become the Overall Winner at odds of 10/1. We stood to make a profit of £400 (plus our stake back), but we lost £40 in the end due to Dale's efforts to get himself put up for nomination. The idiot! Result: £40 loss.

Friday, 11th July 2008  (Day 37)
After making a throwaway comment about Dale possibly winning Big Brother 9, we did some research and wrote this article, giving reasons why he might actually do it and stating how good a bet we thought he was.

Thursday, 10th July 2008  (Day 36)
We published this article looking at the fun Big Brother markets available in advance of the 4th Eviction the following day.

Wednesday, 9th July 2008  (Day 35)
The fourth round nominees had been announced the day before, and by the Wednesday lunchtime it was clear that the public wanted Mario out. So, we staked £1000 on Mario to go at the lowish odds of 1/3 and returned over £1300 when he was evicted with 77% of the vote at the 4th Eviction.  Result: £333 profit.

Monday, 30th June 2008  (Day 26)
In light of our recent bet backing Darnell to win, we published this article looking at who had become more (and less) popular since the Fight Night II bust-up of Day 22.

Friday, 27th June 2008  (Day 23)
The bookies made Darnell second favourite after his arguably admiral involvement in the Fight Night shenanigans. So, we staked our second £25 Free Bet (you get one from Paddy Power and also from Blue Square, see below) on Darnell to Win Big Brother 9 at odds of 5/1. If the albino songwriter goes all the way, we'll make £125 (5 x the amount staked). If he doesn't, we stand to lose nothing because it was a Free Bet!  Result: not yet known.

Tuesday, 24th June 2008  (Day 20)
For our second bet of the day, we waited until late in the evening on the day the nominees were announced and backed Sylvia to go at the 2nd Eviction. To be honest, it was a complete no-brainer and there was no reason to believe that Polls, which had Sylvia at over 80% against Mo, would be wrong. Indeed, Sylvia left with over 90% in the public vote on Friday night, so our £500 stake was returned along with a profit of £71 (the early odds were a low 1/7, but eventually drifted to 1/33).  Result: £71 profit.

Tuesday, 24th June 2008  (Day 20)
We backed Kat to win last week and Luke to win this week. However, we published this article today saying that you could do well to back Luke, but place your Free Bet on Kat.

Tuesday, 24th June 2008  (Day 20)
We used our Free £25 Bet to back Luke to Win, just in case his odds plummeted if his popularity started rising. So, we staked £25 at odds of 4/1 (£4 profit for every £1 staked), and we would have made a profit of £100 if the bet had come right. However, we lost our stake when Luke was evicted at the 7th Eviction on Day 58, but we hadn't risked a penny because the bet was Free from one of the bookies linked-to above/ below.  Result: we lost our stake, but it cost us nothing!

Friday, 20th June 2008 (Day 16)
We published this article justifying why we'd backed Kat to win.

Friday, 20th June 2008  (Day 16)
Feedback from fans hinted that Kat was the most popular housemate and a new Poll on our Home page confirmed it. So, we backed Kathreya to Win Big Brother 9 with a £40 stake at odds of 2/1. The odds were quite low given that the series still had 11 weeks to run, but we stood to return £120 if Kat had gone all the way. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Kat was the favourite to win most of the way through the series, we lost our stake when she was evicted at the Double Eviction in the final week of the show.  Result: £40 loss.

Monday, 9th June 2008  (Day 5)
After the four fakers failed the wedding task and were put up for eviction, later that day we staked £80 at 4/7 on Steph (£4 profit for every £7 staked) because the early feedback said that the public were blaming her for the failure. However, as the 1st Eviction approached it looked like Mario might be going due to a turnaround in public opinion. Steph got evicted though, so we did okay in the end. Phew!  Result: £45 profit.

Big Brother 8 Betting, Summer 2007:

BB8 wasn't our best series in terms of profit, but that was partly because the bookies knew what was likely to happen at the evictions. Consequently the odds weren't great and we had to risk larger amounts. Still, we made nearly £800 so we musn't grumble! If you had a little gamble during BB8, we hope you did okay too.

Overall Result: won £880, lost £100, making for a Total Net Profit during Big Brother 8 of £780.

Thursday, 30th August 2007  (Day 93)
We got a bit carried away believing the Polls, and bet £40 at 7/2 on the 'Finishing Positions' market. We predicted that the Top 3 finalists would be Samanda, Brian & Ziggy, however we were miles-out in the end as the actual result was Brian, Samanda and then Liam. Although we could have won £140 profit, we actually lost our £40 stake.  Result: £40 loss.

Thursday, 30th August 2007  (Day 93)
With just a day to go until the Finale, we detailed a couple of Tips for possible worthwhile bets, although we'd already mentioned the first one on this very page. Click here to read the article.

Tuesday, 28th August 2007  (Day 91)
Fans were now voting for a Winner and we took our own advice (see the article directly above) and placed two bets on Brian, even though the Twins were the bookies favourites at the time. However, it was the 'Betting Without The Favourite' market, so it didn't matter what happened to those two. We staked the maximum of £650 on Brian twice, at odds of 1/6 (£1 profit for every £6 staked), and the bets came right when he won the series a few days later; Bri had to come 1st or 2nd for us to win, and we just couldn't see him coming 3rd.  Result: £108 profit + £108 profit = £216 profit.

Tuesday, 21st August 2007  (Day 84)
This week it was a Double Eviction and Jonty, Kara-Louise and Tracey were 'up'. So, a little while after the nominees were announced we backed Kara & Tracey to go with a £375 stake at the odds of 1/4. This was just before the odds went to 1/6, and the bet paid-off as we made a profit of just under £94 when that pair were evicted on the Friday.  Result: £94 profit.

Tuesday, 7th August 2007  (Day 70)
On the day the nominees were announced, in the evening, we backed Amy to go next as previous Polls indicated that she was hated. The bet came right when she was evicted on the Friday night with a 58% majority against three others: Jonty, Kara and 'Samanda'. The odds were a low 1/8 as the bookies were switched-on to the likely outcome of the eviction, so we had to stake a considerable £350 to win just under £44, plus our stake back.  Result: £44 profit.

Friday, 3rd August 2007  (Day 66)
Whoever was in the Halfway House on the Thursday faced eviction this week, that being David, Kara, Shanessa and Tracey. Two people were set to be evicted and we ran two separate Polls to find-out the fans' least favourite and second-least favourite of the four. So, on the Friday when it became obvious that David and Shanessa were not popular, we placed a bet on them becoming the 7th and 8th evictees. Staking £330 at odds of 1/6, we made £55 when they were both evicted later that day.  Result: £55 profit.

Friday, 27th July 2007  (Day 59)
Just hours before Charley's inevitable eviction we decided to place a fun bet on what Charley might say to Davina, not really expecting to win the bet - check it out here. Suffice to say that due to Charley's predictability, we won £60 from just a £10 stake!  Result: £60 profit.

Monday, 23rd July 2007  (Day 55)
The day before the nominees were announced we went for a riskier 'speculative' bet. We couldn't really see any other outcome than Charley being 'up' that week, and if she was up she couldn't possibly survive. So, we staked £150 on Charley going next at the odds of 2/5 (£2 back for every £5 staked), and when the bet came right we returned a total of £210.  Result: £60 profit.

Friday, 20th July 2007  (Day 52)
We'd previously published an article speculating that Liam could be the likely winner of the series, but it seems we were a bit previous with that! For Brainbox Brian seemed to come from nowhere in the popularity stakes three weeks later, and we looked at how the younger male could be the Overall Winner of BB8 here.

Tuesday, 10th July 2007  (Day 42)
On the day the nominees were announced for the fake eviction, people were piling money on Nicky at first, although it seemed obvious to us that it would be Charley. So, when her odds went from 1/20, through 1/14, 1/10 and ended-up at 1/3 all on the same day, we took the latter odds with a £250 bet. In actual fact, it subsequently became a lot closer between the two, but Charley was fake-evicted on the Friday night and we won just over £83.  Result: £83 profit.

Friday, 6th July 2007  (Day 38)
Before the 4th Eviction had even taken place, we published this article looking at who might leave as the 5th Evictee. Because of Big Brother's plan for there to be a fake eviction on Friday the 13th, the bets placed on this market carried forward until the 5th person was properly evicted.

Tuesday, 3rd July 2007  (Day 35)
Almost as soon as the nominees had been announced, we backed Laura to go at the 4th Eviction, taking into account what the Polls had said up until that point. The odds were low, so we staked £300 on her at 1/5, which won us a profit of £60 when she was evicted on the Friday night. It's a good job we placed our bet quickly though, because within an hour the odds had slipped to 1/8, and they just got lower and lower from then on.  Result: £60 profit.

Friday, 29th June 2007  (Day 31)
We published this story about how it was looking like Liam had the game all sewn-up already.

Wednesday, 20th June 2007  (Day 22)
The nominees had been announced the day before and we were fairly sure that Seany would leave with the majority in the public vote. So, we bet £150 at odds of 1/2, meaning we returned £225 when he was evicted two days later.  Result: £75 profit.

Saturday, 16th June 2007  (Day 18)
A day after Billi, Jonathan, Liam and Brian arrived, we looked at which one of the newbies might last the longest. See here.

Monday, 11th June 2007  (Day 13)
He'd been in the House for a few days and we felt that fans had warmed to Gerry straight away - a fun, Nadia type character, even if Gezza is a proper man! So, we staked £35 at the odds of 7/1 on Gerry winning, meaning we would have seen a return of £280 if he'd gone all the way. Also, if Gerry had come 2nd Overall, we'd have got our money back due to Paddy Power's 'Second Coming' offer - see article from the 31st of May below. However, Gerry was evicted in Week 11 so we lost our stake of £35.  Result: £35 loss.

Wednesday, 6th June 2007  (Day 8)
The nominees for the 1st Eviction had been announced, and by the end of the day it looked like it was going to be 60/40 in favour of evicting Shabnam. So, we staked £250 at odds of 8/15 (£8 back for every £15 staked), meaning we would have returned £380 if Shabs had gone. However, the eviction was cancelled and the bet carried forward until the 1st Eviction took place the following week. It was a no-lose bet in the end, because if Shabnam hadn't been up again, or if she hadn't been evicted, our stake would have been refunded. Shabnam did get evicted with a huge majority though, so we returned £383.  Result: £133 profit.

Sunday, 3rd June 2007  (Day 5)
We used our FREE £25 bet from Paddy Power to back Chanelle next, as she was coming across better than we thought she would at the very beginning. So, we staked £25 (Free of charge) at the odds of 12/1, and would have returned £325 if she'd Won Big Brother 8. We stood to lose absolutely nothing, and if Chanelle had come 2nd Overall we would even have got our £25 stake back! In the end she quit on Day 62 so we lost the bet.  Result: Neither a profit nor a loss.

Saturday, 2nd June 2007  (Day 4)
We had a look at the odds on the fun 'How many girls will Ziggy snog?' market here.

Friday, 1st June 2007  (Day 3)
For our first bet of the series, even though Laura was the favourite and Carole was just behind her, we decided to back Tracey to Win because she was so down to earth and didn't seem to have a gameplan. Also, her odds went from 10/1 to 16/1, so we jumped-in and staked £25 on the raver, meaning we'd have seen a profit of £400 if the bet had come right. Also, if Tracey had come 2nd Overall, we'd have got our money back due to Paddy Power's 'Second Coming' offer - see article below. In the end though, we lost £25 when Trace' was evicted with Kara-Louise in the penultimate week of the game.  Result: £25 loss.
