"Eur-only Saying That To Wind Me Up!"

Jonty and Kara-Louise debated whether Britain should adopt the Euro as its only currency this afternoon... stop yawning at the back!

Privately-educated Kara started things off by admitting that she wasn't keen on the single European currency, which was taken-up by countries such as France, Italy and Germany in 2002.

"We are different and I think it's a shame that the French have lost their Francs," argued the 22-year-old student.

However, Jonty disagreed, suggesting that if we did away with the economical divisions between the nations, it might make the world a more peaceful place. Blimey, today's enlightenment task seems to have had an effect already!

With Jonty having claimed that a nation's currency isn't important to their identity, he added, "Money is a practical thing really... it serves a practical purpose".

And when asked if he thought the USA should adopt the same currency as everyone else, Jonty answered in the positive, going as far as-to suggest that the whole world should adopt a single currency.

In response, Kara-Lou remarked, "It's like you're trying to mould the world into one. So why doesn't everyone start having the same religion, start eating the same food...?"

Jonty basically argued that using different currencies is impractical, but for people to eat different food or follow different religions is perfectly practical. However, he was perhaps forgetting that there's a couple of hundred currencies in use already, so it evidently is practical.

Anyway, we don't want to lose the pound; for a start Liam wouldn't have been able to dub Charley 'sound as a pound' recently and also, nipping to the 'Euro Shop' to buy some cheap tat just doesn't have the same ring to it!
