BB8 Launch Reaches 8 Million Viewers
The Launch show for Big Brother 8 was as popular as ever,
drawing in over 8 Million viewers at peak.
Even the average figure wasn't bad at 6.2 Million,
and this compares well to previous Launch night figures. These
were:
Big Brother 1 in 2000 - 3.6m
Big Brother 2 in 2001 - 3.2m
Big Brother 3 in 2002 - 5.9m
Big Brother 4 in 2003 - 6.9m
Big Brother 5 in 2004 - 6.9m
Big Brother 6 in 2005 - 5.9m
Big Brother 7 in 2006 - 7m
So, not quite as many as last year's average, but then you
have to remember that the current series started on a Wednesday
night (not a Friday night, as usual) and was up against some
big hitters; namely The Apprentice and the ITV Soap Awards.
Even so, the BB8 Launch managed to beat the average viweing
figures for both of the competing shows between 9 and 10pm,
and reached up to 35% of the UK viewing population at peak.
Not that initial viewing figures are the 'be-all-and-end-all',
as Big Brother 4 had substantial averages to start with, but
turned-out to be a bit of a duff series in the end. And that's
being kind to it!
Still, C4's Commissioning Editor for Big Brother, Angela
Jain, was chuffed at the ratings and she clearly has high
hopes for the new series.
"This heralds a fantastic start to Big Brother 8. We
remain as committed as ever to making this year's series the
most entertaining yet," said the exec.
Keep on watching, BB fans.
