What Will BB8 Bring - Fun, Fights Or Fornication?
With the next series of Big Brother starting in less than
a week, we take a look at what the show's producers might
have in-store for us in terms of the characters taking part.
Tabloid rumours suggest that the general theme for Big Brother
this year is one of raunchiness and overt flirting. However,
that's bound to make many fans roll their eyes and groan loudly;
mainly because they don't want to see any housemates 'getting
it on' quite frankly.
Remember, fans have already been privy to the 'PJ BJ' incident
during BB3, witnessed blatant sexual activity during Teen
Big Brother and, as if we could forget, cringed at Michelle
Bass' nympho-like behaviour when she lured hapless Stu Wilson
under the table for some, er, under-the-table action!
Don't fret though, because an inside source has hinted to
BBO that they're very much aiming for a 'fun' theme this time
around, combining the best aspects of all seven series so
far.
That makes us think of Brian Dowling's camp-but-funny antics
during BB2 and the engaging Paul-and-Helen romance during
the same series. The Jade/ Kate/ Jonny drinking games from
BB3 were also a big hit with fans.
And there's been a number of unintentionally-comical characters
in the past too, including the ridiculous 'Jungle Cats' Jason
Cowan/ Victor Ebuwa double-act from BB5, moaning model Alex
"I think it's DISGUSTING!" Sibley from BB3, and
the OTT pretend-Gangsta Rapper 'Science' from BB6.
So, hopefully the contestant group this year will provide
a good combination of fun, flirting and drunken frolics, with
a bit of nutty behaviour or eccentricity thrown-in for good
measure... oh, and the odd barnie now-and-again (so long as
it's not racially motivated. Ahem).
On that note, in light of January's massive race row, C4
bosses have recently rejected a number of candidates put forward
by BB production company Endemol on the grounds that they
could turn-out to be too controversial.
However, the show undoubtedly needs its fair share of wacky,
outspoken or obnoxious characters, just to make it interesting
and stir things up a bit.
Anyway, getting back to the original topic, previous Polls
in the run-up to a series starting have asked fans what they
want to see during Big Brother, with the options usually something
along the lines of: i. Fun & Drunken Antics, ii. Romance
& Nookie, iii. Bitching & Arguments.
Now, no-one wants to see a re-run of January's horrible events,
but without exception, the latter option has always
received the most votes in our Polls. By far. And the first
option is usually next on the fans' list of wants.
Let's just hope that in their efforts to avoid any confrontation,
Channel 4 don't dumb down Big Brother 8 too much and turn
it a 3-month-long episode of The Waltons!
