Chantelle's Dream Dates
Following-on from e4's 'Living The Dream', which followed
the progress of overnight celebrity Chantelle Houghton after
she left the Big Brother House, the dizzy Essex girl has been
given her own show proper. Oh my God!
Chantelle's Dream Dates is essentially a re-hash of Davina
McCall's old late-night dating show Streetmate, however the
format has been re-jigged to include some new twists this
time around.
First, the bubbly blonde host will scour the streets of Britain
to find a girl who's desperate for a date and prepared to
admit it. So far, not dissimilar to Davina's offering.
Next, however, Chantelle will convince the hapless candidate
that she needs a makeover. Then, in something of a 'kick her
when she's down' manoeuvre, three potential dates will be
shown a VT of the girl, pre-makeover, pleading for a date.
Gee thanks Chantelle, you sure know how to make a 'gal feel
good about herself. Not!
To be honest, we're not sure if the show's going to work,
mainly because it doesn't appear to have been thought-through
all that well.
I mean, what girl in their right mind would attempt to pull
a hunk by going-out looking their worst, in the hope that
their would-be beau will be wowed by some kind of Cinderella-style
transformation?
Still it could be fun seeing how things progress, and at
least the girl gets to hear all the boys' comments and can
challenge them if they've been unkind.
Just one thing, expect plenty of inane banter and lots of
enthusiasm from host Chantelle, but don't expect a polished
and professional performance or bags of charisma.
After all, she was just a talentless Paris Hilton lookalike
three months ago... and now she's a talentless Paris Hilton
lookalike who's been given airtime so that Channel 4 can cash-in
on her fame.
Ooh, we're such cynics!
Chantelle's Dream Dates, a six-part series, begins at 10pm
on Wednesday the 12th of April 2006 on digital channel e4.
Look out for the inevitable repeats if you miss it.
