Noirin's 'Housewife' Comment Causes Controversy

Pretty Big Brother 10 contestant Noirin Kelly has caused controversy and riled female viewers by belittling housewives.

Chatting to Marcus at the kitchen sink on Thursday evening, the 25-year-old retailer claimed that she's a maternal person, saying, "I love everything about being a housewife," however, she quickly added, "...but I don't want to be just a housewife".

As-if that wasn't bad enough, Noirin then stated: "I've got a lot more to give than that".

Her comments – aired during Friday night's eviction show – have outraged housewives and parents around the country, who felt Noirin was belittling the work they do, and also that she had failed to appreciate how hard it can be to run a household full-time.

Comment soon appeared on internet forums and social networking websites, with one detractor saying: "I was absolutely horrified by Noirin's immature attitude, effectively suggesting that people who choose to stay at home/ bring up children are somehow in a lower league to the rest of society".

"I'm disgusted. I was a successful career woman who chose to put my career on hold and stay at home while my children were young; Noirin’s comments show total ignorance," said another.

In response to her comments, fans have called for Noirin to be given a solo task that would see her responsible for cooking, cleaning, tidying-up, sewing/ repairing, helping her peers with homework, tending to fake nightmares in the middle of the night and sorting-out petty squabbles at random times.

"That might give her a taste of 'just' how difficult being a housewife can be," said one fan.
