BB5 Application FAQ's
<<
PLEASE NOTE: This is an OLD article that refers to
Series 5, which took place in 2004. For details on applying
for the next series, please visit our Home page and
click the 'Latest News' link. Do not use the Latest News link
to the right of this page, as that may take you to an old,
archived news section.
1. Why have they changed the audition process this time?
For a number of reasons: firstly, because not everyone has
access to a video camera or indeed, the skills to make an
application video-tape.
Also, around 10,000 people usually apply to take part in
Big Brother but the producers only invite several hundred
to audition. Arguably, that didn't work last year and so this
time they are keen to meet as many potential contestants as
possible.
Therefore this year, hi-tech equipment and technical skills
will become irrelevant, as applicants just need to bring themselves
to an audition and stand out from the crowd ...though not
necessarily by wearing a Superman costume for instance, as
that will probably mark you out as a bit of a prat! Then again,
who knows, that might be just the thing to get you noticed
(and/or ignored?)
2. Do I need to fill-in an Application Form before attending
an audition?
No, simply choose the venue nearest you from the list provided
and try to get there as early as you can. Auditions start
at 9am and you just need to join the queue along with everyone
else.
If you are invited into an audition room by the producers,
only then will you be required to complete an application
form.
3. I need to travel quite some distance in order to attend
an audition; will everyone be seen by the producers?
Well, in a literal sense the answer is probably yes. The production
team will certainly be scouring the queues for likely candidates
and will be talking to people who catch their eye or sound
'interesting'.
However, just to re-iterate, not everyone will make it to
the audition rooms and only those people in-whom the producers
are sufficiently interested will be invited for a chat. It
doesn't matter whether you are at the front or the back of
the queue, you stand just as much chance of being noticed
- that's down to you!
4. Will the producers be looking for specific types of
person?
Naturally, they refute this suggestion every single year and
to be honest, they've managed to pick a totally different
bunch of people each series so far. However, the pressure
is really on to live-up to the huge success of Series 3, after
last year's rather disappointing Series 4.
On that note, here at BBO we can't help feeling that the
production team will be on the look out for certain
types of personalities, demonstrating character traits such
as: mouthy (Jade), camp (Brian), posh (Nick/ Tim), funny or
witty (Jonny/ Anna), argumentative (Amma), annoying or quirky
(Lee/ Alex), daft (Helen) and they'll certainly need the obligatory
'obnoxious git' of a contestant (you know who you are!)
5. What happens if I actually make it into an audition
room?
Once inside, you’ll be given the chance to sell yourself
and to let the producers know why they should pick you
to go into the BB House this summer. Don't sound too desperate!
6. What should I bring with me to the auditions?
Depending on how well you do and how many people turn-up,
it could be quite a long day. Therefore, it will probably
pay to bring some light food and drink with you, along with
some warm clothing and a pair of comfy shoes.
7. I've applied for Big Brother before but have been unsuccessful;
can I still apply this time?
Yep, no worries. In fact, even if you fail at one of the eight
national auditions for Big Brother 5, you are welcome to attend
another audition at a different venue if you really feel the
need. Just don't blame us if you get overlooked 8 times!
8. Is it essential to attend the audition venue nearest
my home town?
No, you are free to attend any of the auditions, no matter
where you live in the country. This gives you an opportunity
to come along even if you miss the geographically nearest
audition.
9. I understand that couples are welcome to attend the
auditions this year. Why's that?
Primarily because the producers want to make sure that they
see a wide range of people, not just singles. It doesn't necessarily
mean that Big Brother 5 will feature any couples but you can
expect some changes and surprises this year, so who knows!
10. How old do I need to be in order to attend an audition?
As before, you must be over 18 (and have ID) to attend an
audition but there is no upper age limit. This ruling is not
flexible and no correspondence will be entered into by us
about the minimum age requirements set by Big Brother.
11. What happens after I’ve auditioned?
As always, only successful applicants will be contacted re:
the possibility of them becoming a BB housemate this year.
To clarify, people that the producers are not interested-in
(by default, the majority), will not hear back.
Basically, you must accept that have not been called back
if you don't hear anything. Rest assured, the production team
will try hard to contact you if they're interested.
12. I'm going on holiday this summer; shall I still apply?
Only if you are prepared to forego your holiday in the event
that it clashes with Big Brother 5. Don't forget, if successful,
you will sign a contract to appear as a contestant on the
show. Obviously then, you'll need to be available.
13. Will I reimbursed for any costs incurred traveling
to an audition?
Unfortunately not. You must be willing to take the risk in
terms of time taken off work, traveling costs etc.
14. Are there any auditions in the Republic of Ireland
and if not, can people from the Republic Of Ireland audition?
Applicants from the Republic of Ireland are welcome to attend
any of the eight auditions.
15. Will the audition venues have disabled access?
Yes, and disabled applicants are as welcome as anyone to apply.
