The Spandex Factor

It was just what the subdued housemates needed after Sunita's emotional departure from the Big Brother House.

There were hoots of joy as the storeroom was announced open and when the eleven remaining housemates found a party pack of glitzy make-up and outlandish masks, there were ecstatic whoops of "Bring out the gimp!"

Big Brother provided glitter eyelashes, wigs, coloured hairspray, Spandex leotards, silk capes, transfer tattoos and face paint for Lee's 22nd birthday. And Sandy was happy with the selection of food provided: burgers, sausages, cookies and cola.

Only one person seemed slightly miffed with the provisions. "Is there any beer? Is there any beer?" was all Spencer could be heard to say over the din. "We need beer to do this," he said.

Sandy assumed the role of chef, getting the chicken wings in the oven and the burgers in the frying pan. He served up a batch of corn-on-the-cob while the others glammed up. In fact, Sandy was the only housemate still identifiable for a while.

Kate sprayed her hair pink and decorated it with coloured feathers. Alex opted for a purple hairdo and Spencer and PJ sparkled in glitter eyelashes and fake eyebrows and 'taches.

Jade wore a leotard and cape and Jonny spent an age in the bathroom covering himself in silver face paint. Then Sandy got into the spirit of things by stripping down to a Spandex leotard and donning a scary gimp-type mask.

PJ and Spencer set the wrestling rolling by getting down to a pillow fight, but not everyone was keen to join in. Alison was put off by Sandy's get-up. "I don't want to fight Sandy. I'm scared," she said!

But she did venture to fight Alex, knocking him to the ground with her stomach. Jade and Kate made a half-hearted attempt at a wrestle, but got tired and gave up.

It wasn't long before costumes were discarded and an array of multi-coloured heads were bobbing in the swimming pool.

Lee later described his Birthday bash as, "The best birthday I've had since I was about 16."
