Big Bro Spills The Beans On BB3

Since our speculative Big Brother 3 "news" story a couple of weeks ago, 'the powers that be' have decided to officially release some bona fide information about the new 10-week series:

Unlike before, Big Brother 3 will feature 12 housemates right from the start this time. With the first eviction taking place at the end of the second week, the series will probably therefore run into early August.

There'll be nightly coverage on Channel 4 throughout the week and round-the-clock coverage plus the 'Big Brother's Little Brother' fanzine on E4. In addition, Channel 4 will broadcast the weekly task live on Saturday nights and there'll be a special programme on Sunday giving the psychologist's opinion and an interview with that week's evictee.

Old-favourites Davina McCall and Dermot O'Leary return to front the various TV shows and the familiar Geordie tones of Marcus Bentley will once again be heard as the show's narrator.

For this season Big Brother has decided to get tougher on the contestants. Let's just hope the all-seeing power actually means it this time though, as exactly the same line was touted just before Big Brother 2, yet nothing was done when Dean admitted sending messages to the outside world.

The new tough regime involves a 'three strikes and you're out' rule, which basically means that if the contestants give feeble excuses for nominating their fellow housemates, they could face the boot! Warnings will also come for generally not toeing the line or for breaching the fundamental (new) rules such as not talking about previous Big Brother series' or mentioning anything discussed in the diary room.

To compliment the new rules, all books, games and musical instruments are banned and contestants will be allowed to bring just 1 magazine into the house. This is a determined effort to help build relationships between all the housemates and to stimulate interesting conversation. The contestants will be able to 'win' some luxury items by completing their weekly tasks.

Whilst details of the new house can be found in another story on this site, the 'love loft' rumour has officially been neither confirmed nor denied. Big Brother 2's garden den seems to have been replaced with a swimming pool, but a secret hideaway somewhere in the house wouldn't be a surprise.

Following-on from Paul and Helen's 'will they, won't they' relationship, the show's producers have suggested that they're definitely not trying to encourage sex to take place this time around. However, we all know full-well that a bit of nookie would give a huge boost to the ratings and besides, why have they added extra double beds then?!

At the Friday night evictions, where the public will now be allowed into the studio itself, the ousted housemate will leave via a sprawling staircase. He/she will head-out onto a big platform outside the house and will then proceed down another flight of stairs with Davina. Unless there is a lift installed somewhere, this has rather put-paid to the rumours that there might be a wheelchair-bound contestant as part of the final 12.

The start date of the new series has yet to be confirmed, but expect it to be sometime around the 24th-27th May 2002. On that day, viewers will be able to see the contestants enter the house live on Channel 4.
