Fans Moved Far From The Eviction Action
To us, the whole point of going to an eviction night is to
get in 'the thick of the action', as one more hapless housemate
is given the boot. It's all about soaking-up the incredible
atmosphere: some fans chanting in support, some hissing and
booing.
So, it comes as something of a disappointment to learn that
this summer, the crowd will be cited much further away from
the stairs where the 'loser' exits the house.
Press are normally stood in-wait at the bottom of those stairs,
the public within a stones throw. So, fans can normally see
the week's evictee quite clearly as they make their 'walk
of shame', passing through the middle of the crowd and taking-in
all the banners.
However, it seems that all the 'piggy' banners at Jade's eviction
and the savage booing of Adele last summer has made Big Bro
go soft; the all-seeing power has now made steps to molly-coddle
those ejected from the house each Friday night.
This year, evictees will be met by friends and family first,
so they'll receive a warm welcome. Davina will then whisk
them along the walkway and straight into the studio for interview.
But, the crowd of 1,000+ fans will be stood further away than
ever before.
This is partly to protect the vulnerable evictee from seeing
any 'hate' banners, but also because if there's any major
booing as there was at Adele and Tim's evictions, the remaining
housemates are less likely to hear the goings-on from inside
the house.
Still, with rumours that producers employed a 'positive' rent-a-crowd
for Jade's eviction in an effort to counter the anticipated
backlash, we wonder what next?
Will the crowd be told exactly what to chant; will banners
be scrutinised and confiscated for including any negative
comment? Knowing how the show's Top Bods seem to like taking-on
the Orwellian role of 'Big Brother' in real life, it certainly
wouldn't surprise us.
