It's 'Back To Basics' For Big Brother 4
Producers have announced their plans for Big Brother 4 by
revealing that they aim to get 'back to basics' for the upcoming
series.
What this means, is that they're attempting to get back to
the ethos of the original Big Brother UK series from 3 years
ago: a social experiment to find-out how a diverse group of
people can get on when shut away from society.
So, gimmicks such as last year's 'rich/poor' divide, BB2's
garden 'love den' and the rumoured 'head of house' scenario
have all been scrapped and a more intimate and uncluttered
feel has been created within the house.
About the environment that awaits 12 brand new housemates
(mugs?!), Executive Producer Gigi Eligoloff said, "We've
gone back to our roots with a more pared-down house this year.
No frills or gimmicks".
"Big Brother is about cutting individuals off from society
and getting them to live together as a community. It's really
all about character and personality and this year's focus
should allow people to reveal who they really are".
Producers want more fun and romance in the house this summer
and will choose 'the most diverse range of contestants yet'.
We're not entirely sure on which level they mean by that,
be-it character, social class or both, but dull and boring
people are definitely out.
With a planned agenda to encourage more conversation this
year, messages coming from the Top Bods therefore seem slightly
contradictory: 'thinkers' and intellectuals may be deemed
boring, but will be able to hold a conversation arguably better
than pranksters such as BB3's Jonny or loud-mouths like Jade.
It looks like we'll just have to wait and see.
Despite the new agenda, producers have promised that they
still have a few surprises in-store. Anything that encourages
the housemates to interact is a possibility and the rumoured
sauna, games room and attic have neither been confirmed or
denied.
Oh by the way, Big Brother Online has noted that around a
third of the garden area has now gone... but we wonder what's
in the missing bit now? See our exclusive BB4 garden mock-up
diagram here,
to see what we mean.
Other stuff? Dermot's BBLB show has now been moved to Channel
4 round-the-clock 'live' streaming returns to digital channel
e4, with the failed application videos being shown back-to-back
in the run-up to the start of the series.
BB3's 'tough' stance (the 3 strikes rule) has not been touted
for the fourth series; however contestants will be
obliged to bet at least 50% of their shopping budget on tasks.
Last year they could wager a minimum of just 10%.
The main weekly task, whereby housemates gamble their shopping
budget to supplement a diet of chickpeas, will now return
to a mid-week slot as-per the first two series of the show.
However, a second show will be broadcast live on Saturday
night, during which the housemates can complete a task to
win luxuries.
